That was INCREDIBLE!! Big time kudos to the police. I hope that the sharpshooter was commended. Hats off!!

I disagree TGC, I mean. How irresponsible can the American police be? There was absolutely no reason to take a pot shot at that pistol. They risked seriously injuring the guy. Plus, in the event of a direct hit (which obviously this was) you have a ricocheting bullet flying around which could have gone anywhere. (including into the nutcase himself.) The sharp shooter was indeed a sharp shot. But he was lucky this time. Not everyone can hit the bullseye every time, when it counts. Otherwise, every sharp shot in the US police force would be an Olympic medallist. I believe they should have left him alone. He wasn't gonna shoot himself. If he was serious about killing himself he would have chosen somewhere quiet where he was unlikely to be disturbed and just gotten on with it. Instead, you have a guy sitting out in the open on a chair, attracting lots of attention to himself. I'm not in any doubt that he was pissed off about something. But he was just an attention seeker and was never really gonna use that gun on himself.
Sensationalist and over the top i call it. And not the way we would do here in Britain.

Actually, you can't tell by this short clip, but the bullet was manufactured from a composite metal structure that disintegrates upon impact. The pieces that have the potential to ricochet are much too small to pose a danger to the suspect. I saw the full video on a "non-lethal weapons" special a while ago on Discovery.
